		<description>I guess soaking them ahead of time might be beneficial to give you a shorter cooking time, but I usually just throw mine in the crock pot in the morning and just let them cook on low for the day.  By evening, they are nice and tender.</description>

Why do you have to soak the dry peas when they cook so quickly?  I make split pea soup in the crock pot but I have never soaked the peas ahead of time
